Decades of Hard Work Leads to Warfield’s Closing
Sykesville’s Next Big Economic Engine
Sykesville, Maryland – June 27, 2018 – On Tuesday, June 26, 2018, 18 years of dedication and hard work culminated as the Town of Sykesville finalized the sale of the approximately 51 acre site known as the Warfield Cultural and Commerce site to The Warfield Collaborative.
“So many people have worked tirelessly to see this day happen. There have been three Mayors, four Town Managers, numerous Councilmembers, and countless appointed volunteers and Elected Officials as well as the Warfield Development Corporation Boards who have given their time and energy to this project. This is a proud accomplishment for all of us,” said Mayor Ian Shaw. “We look forward to the benefits a project of this magnitude will provide for our citizens, business owners, the Town of Sykesville, the Freedom Area and Carroll County as a whole.
The deal, for which negotiations began in 2012, proposes to be a mixed-use development including components of residential, commercial and retail development.
The immediate next step will be the construction of high quality townhomes on parcels E and F. The Town will be working closely with the developers and builders to ensure a smooth development process and adherence to the guidelines for the site agreed upon by all parties.
